Membership Agreement

This Membership Agreement is between you and The Defense Brief, Toronto, Ontario, Canada (info@defensebrief.ca). It applies when you buy an Individual Membership. It works together with our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and Disclaimer.

1. What You Are Buying

An Individual Membership gives one person access to the member tools and content of The Defense Brief listed on our Individual Membership page, for as long as the membership is active. Monthly and annual memberships give the same access. Organization features — shared workspaces, co-branding, team administration, managed services — are not part of an individual membership and are offered separately under a signed agreement.

2. Price and Currency

• Monthly membership: CAD $100.00 per month.
• Annual membership: CAD $1,000.00 per year.

All prices are in Canadian dollars. There are no additional fees.

3. Taxes

Prices do not include sales tax, and no sales tax is currently charged on memberships. If we become required to charge GST/HST or another tax, we will tell you at least thirty (30) days before any tax is added to a renewal, and you may cancel before it applies.

4. How You Accept This Agreement

Before you pay, you are shown the price, the renewal terms and a link to this agreement, and you must tick a box confirming that you accept it. You can review your choice and correct any error, or leave without paying, on the payment page before you confirm. We record the version you accepted and the date.

5. Automatic Renewal

Your membership renews automatically at the end of each month or year, and your payment method is charged the price then in effect for your plan, until you cancel. For an annual membership, we will email you a reminder before each renewal.

6. Cancelling

You can cancel at any time from Manage billing in your account settings, or by emailing info@defensebrief.ca from the address on your account.

• Cancelling stops the next renewal. You will not be charged again.
• Your access continues until the end of the month or year you have already paid for, and then ends.
• Cancelling your membership does not delete your account. To close your account and delete your data, use Close account in your account settings.

7. Refunds

Membership payments are non-refundable, including for an unused part of a month or year, except:

• where you were charged in error;
• where we close your account without cause or remove a material part of the membership (see our Terms of Use), in which case we refund the unused portion of a prepaid period; and
• where the law gives you a right to a refund or to cancel.

Nothing in this agreement limits any right you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

8. Failed Payments

If a renewal payment fails, we will email you and our payment processor will retry it. Your access continues while the payment is being retried. If it still cannot be collected, the membership is cancelled for non-payment and access ends. You can update your card from Manage billing.

9. Price Changes

We may change membership prices. We will email you at least thirty (30) days before a new price applies to your membership. The new price takes effect from your next renewal after that notice, and you may cancel before it applies. Price changes never apply to a period you have already paid for.

10. Payment Processing

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number. Your card details are handled under Stripe’s terms and privacy policy.

11. Your Copy of This Agreement

After you join, we email you a copy of this agreement, including the price, renewal and cancellation terms, your email address and the date. You can also read and print it here at any time.

12. Organization Agreements

If you have access through an organization under a signed agreement, that agreement governs the organization’s access and billing instead of this one.
